PocketFinder LTE Smart Tracker User Guide #

The PocketFinder LTE Smart Tracker is an automatic GPS tracker suitable for seniors, children, pets, and even asset tracking. Utilizing several Power Modes, Zones (geo-fencing), and other Alert features, the PF Smart provides you peace of mind and independence for those wearing the device.

The PF Smart uses 3 types of location technology – GPS, WiFi Touch and Cellular Triangulation to provide you timely and accurate tracking. The PF Smart’s primary location technology is GPS, meaning it is most accurate while outdoors. If indoors and unable to obtain an accurate GPS location (within 50 meters), it will try WiFi Touch to get a location via an open WiFi source. This device cannot communicate via WiFi. But, if there are WiFi signals around, the device can read the location tag on the signals and determine its own location  (accuracy within 75 meters). The device then uses LTE cellular signals to send the location data to our system where you can then view it live via your Online Account or the PocketFinder App.

Charging: The 1st charge takes 3 hours; future full charges take 2 hours. Standard charging is with the provided USB-C cable. The device LED will go solid BLUE while charging. Once charging completes, the LED will turn off. If you charge via a wall outlet, do not use a rapid charger. The cube that plugs into the wall should not have an output over 5V/ 1A (What comes standard with most cell phones).

The Smart Tracker can also be powered using a Wireless charging pad. Please note: Wireless charging is exactly as it sounds, wireless. The power signals may cut off and reset. This can lead to the device doing a light reset every few minutes when the disconnect happens and cause the device to beep every time it registers a charge.

Power Mode:

Constant Tracking (30 Seconds)– In this mode, while moving, the device will GPS locate once every 30 seconds. If the device stops moving for 20 minutes, it will go to Sleep Mode. This is a dormant state where it stops communicating and saves maximum battery. Once the device starts moving again, it will wake up and continue locating every 30 seconds. Average Battery Life for this mode is 8-12 hours (Environment, Sleep, and SOS will impact battery).

4 Minute / 10 Minute– In these modes, while moving, the device will GPS locate once every 4 or 10 minutes. If the device stops moving for 20 minutes, it will go to Sleep Mode. This is a dormant state where it stops communicating and saves maximum battery. Once the device starts moving again, it will wake up and continue locating every 4 or 10 minutes. Average Battery Life for these modes is 20-30 hours (Environment, Sleep, and SOS will impact battery).

20 Minute– In this mode, the device will locate once every 20 minutes whether moving or sitting still. In this mode, the device will not go to Sleep. Average Battery Life for this mode is 18-22 hours (Environment and SOS will impact battery).

SOS:

SOS in an emergency location mode performed by the person wearing the device. To enact SOS, press the RED button on the device once for 3 seconds. The LED will then go solid RED. This will have the device exit whatever state it is in and start GPS locating. SOS will last 5 minutes and the device will track as much as it can in that 5 minute period. After that point, the LED will briefly go GREEN then off. At that point, SOS will end and the device will continue on with its set Power Mode.

SOS can be canceled mid-cycle by pressing the RED SOS button on the device for 3 seconds a second time. The LED will go off and the device will exit SOS and return to its previous state.

Locate and Track Mode Buttons (Online Account and App)

***Please Note – The ‘Locate’ and ‘Track Mode’ buttons do not apply to this device model. If pressed, there is no negative impact on the PF Smart. These are for older models that are used by customers in other countries/ regions where 3G and 2G are still available.

Contact Book, Zones, and Alert Set Up:

For the best experience, we recommend setting up the various features on your full online account. Then, use the app for active tracking and changing power modes on the fly. You can be logged into your account online and in the app at the same time, allowing for multiple users to monitor at once.

Contact Book – This is an internal contact book for your account. Once saved, you can set up the features below and pick and choose which contacts are alerted via SMS text and Email.

Zones – Also known as “geo-fences”, Zones are an added level of security. When the digital perimeter is set up, you will be alerted each time the device enters and exits the designated zone area. You can set up as many zones as you like, including zones within zones (around the house, the neighborhood, the whole town). Zones can be made small enough to fit around a standard house and about 500-mile diameter at their largest.

Low Battery and SOS Alerts – For the Low Battery alert, you choose the battery % to be notified so you can anticipate when the device will need a charge. We recommend setting the alert for 30%. The SOS function is built into the hardware. But to ensure you receive the alert when SOS is enacted, you must set it up in your account.

Limited Users – Essentially, you can have as many people as you wish logged into your account at once. This can be done online and through the app. When your account is set up, your credentials are for full access. You can provide these credentials to anyone you like, and they can log in with full access like you. With the Limited User option, you create separate credentials that set up the users as “view only”. They have no access to adjust settings but can still receive alerts and view live tracking.
